courtsey myrepublica.com REPUBLICA Technology rocks! And because of a globalized world, we in a “third-world” country have been able to experience some of it in bits and pieces. And we are not complaining. The fast growth of technology and entertainment is quite hard for us to catch up on from down here. Silent black and white introduced color movies and then super fancy special effects. But we jumped almost directly to color movies and skipped the whole silent black and white except for textbook materials. Then there was the 3-D movie with special blue and red glasses. We missed all of 3-D development and jumped directly to 4-D. A special simulation of 3D movie along with virtual environment created to make the audience visiting the theater feel like one is in the movie itself, is the latest offing of technology and environment. And we just got a taste of it here in Kathmandu. Your chair trembles, water sprays into your face as the wind blows. Something crawls upon your leg and you go through fog, rain and lightening. Something funny smells alongside. And all this inside a theater. Inside the virtual reality of 4D cinema, audiences will have both visual and sensory experiences creating a unique experience of movie as you are a part of it. The entertainment presentation system combines a 3D film with physical effects in the theater, which occur in synchronization with the film. Cine Blast introduced the adventure since last week. Located at the new landmark shopping mall of City Center in Kamal Pokhari, each ride, with two twenty-minute movies will cost Rs 300. The new 22-seater 4D cinema brings cinematic entertainment in four dimensions to Kathmandu for the first time. Visitors will be able to watch two movies now: Mazymine and Insectopia. Mazymine will feature a derailed train where your adventure, or misadventure for that matter, begins with an old man in front of a tunnel mocking you on your guts. The train ride, almost eight minutes, is full of adventure as you twist and turn, literally in your seats, through the tunnel. Since we don’t have a roller coaster in Nepal, this could be your experience of one. Insectopia features images of spectacular insects in larger than life sizes while hydraulic seats, vapors, and a range of smells and scents suited to the illusions on the screen will add an extra dimension to the experience. The insects attack you, crawl on your legs and even try to throw you off the cliff. The movie experience is usually kept short in duration, to crank up the hi-tech fun. Student Siddharth Pandey, who calls himself ‘Sid’, was amongst one of the first ones to try out the experience. Says he, ‘‘I had seen it in television. So I wanted to experience it real bad. It’s an amazing short-lived experience. It’s so trippy, especially the Insectopia.’’ So, buckle up for an intense 4D ride that even beats the thriving driving in Kathmandu. Children below three and people with weak heart are highly advised not to participate. | ||
